Thoughtfully designed. Carefully built. Lived in well.
Our build stories share the projects, collaborations and ideas that shape how we build, reflecting the land, the people they’re for, and a commitment to places that stand the test of time.
Collaboration with HalfWild
At Hoose, we care deeply about the places our buildings become part of. For us, building well is not only about the homes themselves, it’s also about supporting the land and the communities that grow around them. That thinking is what led us to work with HalfWild on their hutting project in Aberdeenshire.
While we’re still at the beginning of our journey as a company, the projects we choose to share reflect the values that guide our work. This collaboration explores how simple buildings, careful design, and landscape restoration can come together to create places where people can slow down, reconnect with nature, and switch off from an always-on world.
_____
Starting with the Land
HalfWild has acquired land in Aberdeenshire with a long-term vision to rewild the landscape and allow ecosystems to recover. Rather than beginning with buildings, the project starts with restoring the land itself and finding a use that can support native woodland on the site instead of planting a non-native commercial plantation.
Within this setting, the vision is for a small number of huts which will be carefully placed throughout the woodland. Each will sit quietly within its surroundings, with generous space around it to create privacy and a true sense of immersion in nature.
For us, it reflects an important principle: buildings should work with the land, not against it, allowing the landscape to lead the story of the place.
_____
A Place to Step Away
The huts are designed as simple places where people can spend time outdoors and step away from the pace of everyday life. The aim is for guests to be able to stay for short periods, using the huts as a base to explore the landscape, read, write, create, or simply enjoy quiet time.
Over time, the project hopes to attract people who share a similar outlook and are drawn to spending time close to nature, appreciating slower rhythms and the quiet presence of the surrounding landscape.
It’s less about accommodation and more about creating a place where people can pause, breathe a little deeper, and reconnect with the natural world in a meaningful and lasting way, returning home feeling calmer and restored.
_____
Spaces Designed for Calm
The huts themselves are intentionally simple, designed to provide warmth and comfort while encouraging visitors to spend as much time as possible outside. Natural materials, generous windows, and carefully considered spaces create interiors that feel calm, quiet, and grounding.
These are places designed to support wellbeing, where light, landscape, and quiet come together to create a deeply restorative environment. In many ways, the thinking behind them reflects the same thoughtful approach we take when designing a Hoose, where careful attention to materials, proportion, and setting helps create spaces that feel connected to their surroundings and supportive of everyday life, offering comfort, balance, and simplicity.

“From the moment I met the Hoose team it was clear to me they aligned with our vision and understood exactly what outcomes we were trying to achieve with the site. Their enthusiasm to get involved in the project at such an early stage and work in collaboration to achieve something quite special has been inspiring. We are looking forward to working with them on a design that can work in an Aberdeenshire setting and be replicated across future HalfWild sites.”
